Information Form

Information Form

On December 1, 2006 the United States adopted a set of amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) to formally recognize the importance of all digital content in litigation. These amendments extended the definition of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) to include all forms of digital content including rich media/multimedia. As a result of these new regulations, all US companies subject to an eDiscovery order must be able to locate and produce the relevant content quickly, regardless of its form, to be prepared for the early case assessment phase. Thus, the tasks associated with finding, reviewing and producing relevant ESI in the requested form is now a fundamental requirement of doing business in or with companies located in the United States.

How do Manual Legacy Techniques Approach the Problem of Processing Rich Media?

The traditional method of finding relevant audio and video files involves multiple disconnected systems and significant manual labor. It is error-prone, time-consuming and prohibitively expensive. Teams of investigators have traditionally been employed to comb through file stores and archives, using ineffective keyword searches in a costly effort to retrieve potentially responsive content. Expensive litigation teams open and review each file manually to determine relevance and privilege, then the results must be placed into context with other forms of information such as email and documents. Hundreds, even thousands of man hours are consumed before the early case assessment can even begin. This method is not cost-effective or scalable.

How Does Autonomy ZANTAZ Resolve Challenges of Form?

Autonomy is not reliant on any single file or data format. The Autonomy IDOL platform aggregates more than 1,000 content formats, including voice and video content, from the most comprehensive range of systems and secured repositories. As a result, Autonomy ZANTAZ processes the widest range of formats and sources available, from unstructured data (e.g. HTML pages, word processing documents, spreadsheets, email, rich media content) to semi- structured (e.g. XML) and structured data (e.g. Oracle, Lotus Notes, ODBC compliant material). In addition, Autonomy ZANTAZ penetrates the information silos in an enterprise by offering deep integration into a myriad of repositories including Documentum, Lotus Notes, SharePoint, Exchange, RDBMS, file servers and more.

What Does Processing and Analyzing Rich Media Provide?

Autonomy ZANTAZ delivers a single unified process for indexing, managing and retrieving rich media, eliminating the need for multiple systems. This streamlined approach drastically reduces the review process and provides more complete and relevant results in a shorter amount of time. Using Autonomy's patented speech and video technologies, the results are processed into meaningful visual paradigms for rapid categorization and analysis. IDOL's speaker independence, multilingual speech-to-text conversion allows investigators to rapidly locate conversations containing specific search phrases, and speakers. IDOL clustering capabilities can help spot previously unknown patterns of activity since they do not require the predefinition of search criteria. Combining rich media with related text documents is just a click away. The Autonomy ZANTAZ solution is the first and only solution in the market to address the issues of finding, reviewing and producing rich media in context with related electronic documents for all eDiscovery and compliance requirements.
